Provider Status

Q: When will we be considered health care providers at the Federal level?  That will make it easier for us to be able to use personal protection devices (gloves and mask if we can get them) when giving vaccinations, taking blood pressures, performing patient consultations and in person CMRs?

A: CPhA is working with our partners at the Federal level, and we have been advocating for this for years. While Congress has been unwilling to pass legislation thus far, the President as well as Federal regulators have only recently acknowledged the crucial role of pharmacists within all healthcare teams. It is unfortunate that it took a public health crisis of this magnitude to illustrate that pharmacists are healthcare providers in every sense.

At the next politically opportune time, we plan to address this again with Congress.
