Please join the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) and the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP) for our annual Advocacy Day on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 11 am – 3 pm.
This important grassroots event will provide insight and information related to legislation affecting the profession of pharmacy. You will also have the opportunity to hear from legislative leaders and earn 1 hour of CE credit.
CPhA & UNAC/UHCP have partnered together on many legislative issues supporting and defending pharmacists. We are committed to working together to continue to advance the pharmacy profession and ensure that pharmacists are able to provide care to their patients without corporate interference. Our collaborative efforts have resulted in positive outcomes for our respective members; let’s continue to advocate together in support of pharmacists in all practice settings.
All attendees are advised to bring your white coat to wear during the event.

Advocacy Day Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the unique dynamics shaping healthcare policy making in California
- Identify and review 2023 legislation affecting the profession of pharmacy
- Review effective grassroots advocacy methods for legislative meetings
Speakers
California Insurance Commissioner, Ricardo Lara
As Insurance Commissioner, Ricardo Lara, has taken on tough fights holding the insurance industry accountable while fighting for health care for all.
Assemblymember Jim Wood, DDS.
Dr. Wood led the efforts in the Legislature to fight the Medi-Cal clawbacks. The positive resolution to this effort would not have been possible without his support.
Assemblymember Marc Berman, Chair, Assembly Business & Professions Committee
He has been a strong advocate for consumer protection and higher education. Mr. Berman has been a strong supporter of pharmacy issues.
Assemblymember Vince Fong
He was the 2021 Friend of Pharmacy Award Recipient for his support for independent pharmacy in fighting the Medi-Cal Clawback.
Senator Josh Newman
The recipient of the 2022 Friend of Pharmacy Award will be speaking during our 2023 Advocacy Day!
Senator Newman has been a champion of pharmacy and we are pleased that he will spend some time with us during our event.
Senator Richard Roth, Chair, Senate Business, Professions & Economic Development Committee
Roth has been a constant and strong supporter of community pharmacy. As chair of the powerful Business & Professions Committee, his support of pharmacy is crucial. He has been a steadfast advocate for healthcare.

The California Pharmacists Association (#0113) is approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Upon completing an evaluation form, participants will be awarded 1.0 hours (0.1 CEUs) of Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit. A statement of credit will not be issued. Participants may log onto the CPE monitor website using their individual log in to download their statement of credit. Please allow 4 weeks for processing of CPE credits to the CPE monitor.
