2024 Advocacy Day

Please join the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) and the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP) for our annual Advocacy Day on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 9 am – 5 pm.

This important grassroots event will provide insight and information related to legislation affecting the profession of pharmacy. You will also have the opportunity to hear from legislative leaders and earn 1 hour of CE credit.

CPhA & UNAC/UHCP have partnered together on many legislative issues supporting and defending pharmacists. We are committed to working together to continue to advance the pharmacy profession and ensure that pharmacists are able to provide care to their patients without corporate interference. Our collaborative efforts have resulted in positive outcomes for our respective members; let’s continue to advocate together in support of pharmacists in all practice settings.

All attendees are advised to bring your white coat to wear during the event.

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the unique dynamics shaping healthcare policy making in California
  • Identify and review 2024 legislation affecting the profession of pharmacy
  • Review effective grassroots advocacy methods for legislative meetings

 

Confirmed Speakers

Senator Scott D. Wiener
Senator Wiener carried CPhA-sponsored bills SB 159 SB 339 granting pharmacists the authority to independently initiate and provide PEP and PrEP He is also carrying SB 966, CPhA/California Chronic Care Coalitions PBM bill.
Assemblymember Chris Ward
Assemblymember Ward is Chair of the Select Committee on Biotechnology which held an Informational Hearing on PBMs.
Assemblymember James Gallagher
Assemblymember Gallagher is the Assemblyman Republican Leader.
Assemblymember Jim Wood, DDS
After years of serving as the Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, Assemblymember Wood now serves as a member of the Speaker’s Leadership team. He was appointed as Speaker pro Tempore.
Assemblymember Marc Berman
Assemblymember Berman serves as Chair of the Committee on Business and Professions which is one of the most important committees for the profession of pharmacy.

Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) Credit

The California Pharmacists Association (#0113) is approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Upon completing an evaluation form, participants will be awarded 1.0 hours (0.1 CEUs) of Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit. A statement of credit will not be issued. Participants may log onto the CPE monitor website using their individual log in to download their statement of credit. Please allow 4 weeks for processing of CPE credits to the CPE monitor.

Credit for this course must be claimed using the attendance code distributed at the end of this program. Once credit is claimed, transcripts of CPE will be available online within 24 hours on the participant’s CPE Monitor profile at www.nabp.net. A Certificate of Achievement will NOT be mailed.
